Accessibility
We want every family to be able to use Curio, including the grown-ups and children who use a screen reader, a keyboard, a switch, zoom, or the accessibility settings built into their phone or computer.
Last reviewed: September 2026.
What we aim for
Our target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA. That is a goal we're working towards, not a claim that every screen already meets it. Where we know of gaps, they are listed below.
Your device's settings, not ours
Curio doesn't use an "accessibility widget" or overlay. Instead it respects the settings you already have on your device, so they work here the same way they work everywhere else:
- Text size and zoom. Browser zoom and system text size work, and the layout reflows down to phone width without sideways scrolling.
- Reduced motion. If your device is set to reduce motion, Curio's animations and confetti are turned down or switched off.
- Screen readers. Buttons and controls have names, and progress that is shown in pictures (like a row of dots) is also given in words.
- Keyboard. The pages you see before signing in can be used with a keyboard alone.
How we check
- Every change to the website is tested automatically with axe-core against WCAG 2.2 AA, covering the landing page, the sign-in window and this page.
- The colours we use are tested for contrast against the WCAG ratios.
- Tap targets are at least 48 pixels, in line with platform guidance.
Automated tools find some problems but not all of them, so we also check by hand with a keyboard, a screen reader and zoom.
Known limitations
- The games are made for very young children, and many are visual or touch-based. Matching photos, drawing and dragging things into baskets depend on seeing the screen and touching it. Many games speak their questions aloud, and several of the dragging games also let you tap instead, but some games can't be fully played without sight or touch.
- Spoken words use your device's built-in voice, so how they sound and which languages are available depend on your device.
- Vibration feedback isn't available on iPhone or iPad, because Safari doesn't support it. Every tap is also confirmed visually.
Tell us about a problem
If something in Curio is hard or impossible for you to use, please email admin@mistuffapp.com. Tell us which page or game it was, what device and browser you use, and any assistive technology involved. A person reads every message and will reply. We treat accessibility problems as bugs.
